APRIL April 3 Easter Egg Hunt 10:00 a.m. Come to the Crossroads in Hardin, (the old Compromise Grange Hall), for a fast and fun egg hunt. The Park District partners with the Hardin United Methodist Church for this event. They provide candy filled eggs and our Friends of the Park provide prize filled eggs. Come and enjoy a great opportunity to spend some quality family time together and meet some new friends. April 17 March for Parks at the Lockington Reserve, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. March for Parks is a national fundraising event with activities occurring throughout the country. This fundraiser is designed to keep all of the funds raised at the local level. 100% of the funds raised at this event will go to our Friends of the Park group. You can sign up as an individual or as a team. This is a great and easy way for you, your church, business or 4-H/Scout groups to raise funds that will go towards assisting the Shelby County Park District in its events and programs. MAY May 1 Annual Bird Walk at the Lockington Reserve, 8:00 a.m. We invite you to come out and enjoy the spring migration of birds through the East Side of the Lockington Reserve. Our guest presenters, the Reed brothers, will dazzle you with their knowledge of birds. Life long bird watchers and retired teachers they have the ability to teach the basics to beginners or converse the finer points with the most advanced birders. So if you’ve ever wanted to know more about this great hobby or want to meet others to share your skills with, stop out. May 1 Mulch Sale at the Park District Office, 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Are you in need of some mulch for your spring landscaping? The Friends of the Park will be selling shredded wood chips to raise some funds for their projects. We’ll have the equipment to load you up. All you need to bring is the truck or trailer or whatever you need filled.
June 5 National Trails Day, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Help us celebrate the trails that we love and join us on one of our Park District trails for a work day to help us improve your hiking experience. This year we will be working on the Miami Erie Canal Trail between Pampel Rd. and Stoker Rd. in the Houston area. No matter your experience come on out and lend a hand. Experienced trail workers will be on hand to help you and a limited amount of equipment will be available for loan while your working on the trail. The Friends of the Park will provide lunch. So come out, get some exercise, improve a trail section and meet some new friends. For more information on how you, your family or group came help contact the Park Office. June 26 Kids Around the Square Come to Downtown Sidney and see our booth. While there you can also enjoy the other activities that many other organizations provide for the day at this kid friendly event.
July 25 to July 31 Shelby County Fair See our display and enjoy our crafts at the Shelby County Fair. Nature related crafts happen twice a day and are suited for pre-schooler to elementary age students. Every year we and our partner agencies promote a specific theme for the fair and our booths and tent area reflect that. Come out this year and see if you can figure it out!
August 12 Volunteer Picnic, 6:30 p.m. The Friends of the
Shelby County Park District will once again host a picnic to celebrate
our many volunteers and offer an informal evening to mingle and get to
know your fellow volunteers. The location will be announced at a later
