March-May Programs

March

March 15...Looking for the Green
10:00am Lockington Reserve, East Side, 1 hour

Come out and celebrate St. Patrick's Day a little differently than before! We'll explore the Reserve for the first sign of spring wildflowers and new leaves on the tree. Spring Beauty and Harbinger of Spring should be up and blooming. Meet at the East Side of Lockington Reserve.

March 23... Signs of Spring
2:00pm Bornhorst Woods, 1 hour

It's getting closer to the official start of spring but nature runs by a different calendar. We'll search Bornhorst Woods for our own signs of spring. We'll try and find some wildflowers and maybe an early migrating bird or a singing frog! Meet at Bornhorst Woods.

April

April 6... Wildflower Prowl
2:00pm Bornhorst Woods, 1 hour

It's the first prowl of the year! We'll search Bornhorst Woods again and see if anything is different than our visit on the 23rd of March. Learn about wildflower lore and natural history and we enjoy the warmer days of early spring. Meet at Bornhorst Woods.

April 12... Wildflower Prowl
2:00pm Lockington Reserve, West Side, 1 hour

The first prowl at Lockington Reserve. We'll head down around the river and see what flowers are blooming in the wetter parts of the Reserve. We'll check the same area out again in May to see what's different. Meet at the parking lot on the West side of the Reserve.

May

May 3... Annual May Bird Walk
7:00am Lockington Reserve, East Side, 1-½ hours

Join local expert birdwatchers, Don and Gary Reed, as they lead the hike to find those wonderful spring migrants. Search Lockington Reserve for warblers, thrushes, and who knows what else! Meet at the Lockington Reserve East parking lot.

May 4... Wildflower Prowl
2:00pm Miami-Erie Canal Trail, Dawson Rd. pulloff, 1 hour

Come out and enjoy a walk along the historic Miami-Erie Canal. Hike along the old towpath and see what wildflowers have grown up along it. Trilliums, Trout Lilies and Phloxes should be up and showing off their colors.

May 17... Birds and Blooms
10:00 am Lockington Reserve, East Side, 1-½ hours

Enjoy this spring morning as we search the skies and ground for warblers and wildflowers. Don't worry if you are new to bird watching or wildflowers, it's easy to learn to identify both. Meet at the Reserve's East parking lot. Bring binoculars and field guides if you have them.

May 31... Spring Stargaze
8:30pm Lockington Reserve, East Side, 1-½ hours

Join Dick Pierce of the Stillwater Stargazers to observe the skies on this spring evening. It will be a new moon so the stars will be shining bright. Meet at the Lockington Reserve East parking lot.
